A Blood Sample Is All We Need

Early gender tests are extremely sensitive. During sample analysis, the scientists look for the presence of X and Y chromosomes to determine if you are having a boy or a girl.

To avoid the risk of contaminated samples we do not offer a home “blood-prick” test – the sensitive nature of this test means that male DNA from a partner or family member in the vicinity during sample collection could lead to a false result.

We will only accept blood samples that have been collected by a nurse or medical professional and you will need to arrange this with your GP surgery or midwife.

How Early in Pregnancy can the Baby Gender Test be Performed?

We offer the very earliest gender detection of any DNA-based test and it can be performed as soon as 7 weeks into the pregnancy (49-56 days from the first day of the mother’s last menstrual cycle) with 99.5% accuracy. The laboratory’s superior equipment and testing methodology make this possible.

The baby gender test is validated at 7 weeks of pregnancy or later. Accuracy at earlier times is unknown and there is an increased risk of an incorrect female result prior to 7 weeks’ gestation as the foetal DNA could be below the detection limit. The test is not validated for earlier than 7 weeks.

Early Gender Test Money Back Guarantee

We are so confident in the accuracy of the baby gender test results that we offer a 100% money-back guarantee if the gender of your newborn does not match your result.

Please see our Baby Gender DNA Test Terms and Conditions for full details.

Please note that this test has not been validated for twins or other multi-foetal pregnancies.

The test cannot be performed in the following cases: earlier than 7 weeks of pregnancy, the foetus has a structural abnormality, mosaicism, multiple pregnancies, the pregnant woman has a chromosomal aneuploidy herself or has received a blood transfusion, transplantation, stem cell therapy or immune therapy.

The Science Behind the Baby Gender Test

The scientists isolate cell-free foetal DNA from the mother’s blood. This is then followed by amplification of both Y-chromosome and autosomal-specific regions using the latest quantitative real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology.

The analysts are looking for the presence of the Y chromosome, which only males have. If the Y chromosome is present, then the baby is a boy; if it is not present, then it’s a girl.

Sample Collection Instructions

Step-by-step instructions are included in the kit together with the Test Request Form which must be completed in full and returned to us with the sample.

Steps 1 and 2 must be performed by a medical professional.

Step 1: Draw Blood Perform a venipuncture blood draw using standard protocol. The tube provided contains an additive to help preserve the sample.

Step 2: Mix Solution When blood draw is complete, mix thoroughly by inversion 10 times.

Step 3: Ensure Sample Viability After collection, the sample can be shipped at room temperature.

DO NOT FREEZE. Ship immediately or no later than 1 day after sample collection.

Not following these guidelines may result in the need for sample recollection and a delay in issuing the test result.

Step 4: Complete the Test Request Form Complete and sign the Test Request Form included with your kit.

Be sure to include all information including the kit barcode and your email address to receive the results report. Missing or illegible information will delay your results.

Do not write on tube. The tube’s barcode is all that is needed to identify the tested party.

Step 5: Pack and Ship Place the collection tube into the kit’s small resealable plastic bag and seal. Securely nestle bag with sample into the protective foam provided and place bag and foam in kit box.

Ship within 24 hours using the prepaid courier pouch provided.

Limitations of Cell-Free Foetal DNA Testing

The baby gender test relies on an acceptable level of foetal DNA in the mother’s blood stream.

For most women, the levels of foetal DNA increase throughout their pregnancy.  However, there are a small percentage of women that will not generate enough foetal DNA in their bloodstream (even in later months of her pregnancy) to be a candidate for this test.

If we identify acceptable levels of foetal DNA in the blood, we are able to determine the gender and release the results.

If the foetal DNA levels fall below our laboratory standards to perform this test, the laboratory will not be able to determine the gender of the foetus and will request a recollection of the sample.

Low levels of foetal DNA should not be an area of concern for the mother.  They are not any indication of the health of the pregnancy.  They are only important as they relate to this specific test.

How is a Baby Gender Test Different to A Urine or Finger Prick Gender Predictor Test?

There are no sex hormones in urine, and the presence of sex hormones is necessary for any reliable and scientifically-sound gender test. Our early gender reveal test is a DNA test, and DNA does contain sex hormones. Our laboratory analysis looks for the presence of the Y chromosome in the DNA contained in the mother’s blood, which determines whether the mother is having a boy or a girl. This is the most reliable, accurate, and scientifically proven process for early gender detection.

While other laboratories offer finger prick blood testing for baby gender, this is not something we offer, as it is much more difficult to prevent male DNA contamination when collecting a blood sample using lancets. Contamination with male DNA can affect the results of a baby gender test, leading to a false result.

Important Note

Whilst ultrasounds can be used to discover the sex of your baby, they have a much more important purpose such as monitoring and ensuring the baby’s health. Our test is not designed to replace or override any prenatal care you are receiving during your pregnancy.

Other Non-Invasive Prenatal Tests from AffinityDNA

Paternity can be determined during pregnancy using a simple blood-draw from the mother and a mouth swab from the alleged father.

This non-invasive prenatal paternity test is completely safe for both mother and unborn child and utilises Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to calculate whether or not the alleged father is the biological father of the unborn child.
